Plastic Election Poster Free Zone

Initiated 2019

2024/25

We asked all 18 of the Local Council Election candidates who by and large followed our request for Johnstown to be a Plastic Poster Free Zone for the June 2024 elections. We estimate over 180 plastic posters have been avoided.

Although it was not taken up we did suggest to the Old Johnstown Village Tidy Towns Group to include their area as we had in our 2019 zone.

2019/20

Meath County Council declared a Climate Emergency in 2019. We took the opportunity to write to all Navan County Council candidates asking them to protect the environment by not hanging plastic election posters in Johnstown.

We declared Johnstown as a plastic election poster-free zone in 2019 and following its success, we repeated the initiative in 2020 for the Meath West General Election.

We estimate over 400 plastic posters have been avoided in Johnstown.
