Action Against Food Poverty

Initiated 2020

Our Covid-19 Support service led us to discover that many families within our community are living in Food Poverty and are often unable to put meals on their tables.

We reached out to offer our support to the Inner City Helping Homeless (ICHH) Meath Branch (closed Nov 2021) and the Athboy People Who Share Care group. In our first year (2020) we delivered over 1,000 food hampers to families in need locally within Navan and further afield to Kells, Trim, Dunderry, Drogheda, Ashbourne, and Slane.

In 2022 we continue to collect and deliver every weekend to those within our Navan Community.

We rely heavily on volunteers from our community to assist with the distribution of the weekly hampers.

In July 2020 we purchase a lid for our trailer (donated by Malones Toyota Navan) so that we could continue the deliveries regardless of the weather conditions. Two estate cars together with the 8ft trailer are needed to collect the food supplies and hampers from Dublin and Athboy each week.

We now use and collect plastic trays on loan from the wholesalers to reduce cardboard waste.

A donation of 500kg of potatoes from a local farm.

Ongoing donations from commercial suppliers have been amazing together with random acts of kindness from the public.
