Have you ever wondered exactly where the heat escapes from your home? While we can’t see energy loss with the naked eye, a thermal imaging camera reveals a hidden world of "hot" and "cold" spots. By identifying these insulation gaps, residents can make targeted, often affordable fixes that lead to immediate warmth and noticeable savings on energy bills.
To help our community, we are launching a camera loan scheme. By pinpointing where your home is leaking energy, you can:
Increase comfort by eliminating drafts.
Save money on monthly fuel costs.
Reduce your footprint by lowering carbon emissions and local air pollution.

Fridge & Freezer Insulation Leaks
Interestingly, our homes aren't the only things that need insulation. Mother Nature provides her own "overcoats" and "umbrellas" for the wilder members of our neighborhood.
During a winter freeze, life continues beneath our feet. While worms and beetles dig deep to escape the frost, birds struggle to find food in frozen ground. However, areas with longer grass, leaf litter, and tree cover act as natural insulation, keeping the soil surface warm enough for creatures to thrive even in a cold snap. The same is true in reverse during summer heatwaves, where ground cover keeps the soil moist and cool.
We will use thermal cameras to compare the dramatic temperature differences between manicured estate lawns and our sheltered, wilder spaces. This "citizen science" project aims to show just how vital trees and ground cover are for our local ecosystem.
The equation is simple: More soil protection equals more wildlife, greater biodiversity, and a healthier environment for us all.
Our proposal was submitted as part of our application for the MCC Climate Action Funding 2025 and should know if we are successful in March 2026.
