We want to make the school commute a little brighter and a lot more sustainable!
To encourage families to ditch the car and enjoy the fresh air, we’re proposing a series of temporary pavement signs and whimsical street markers designed to spark smiles and conversation on the way to class.
Instead of staring at the bumper in front of them, kids (and parents!) will find motivation right at their feet. Using eco-friendly, temporary pavement paint, we’ll create a trail of:
Practical Stats: How many meters or minutes are left until the school gates.
Playful Prompts: "Pretend you’re walking on a sandy beach!" or "Count how many steps until the next sign."
Honest Humor: Relatable nods to the morning rush, like "We’re moving, we’re walking... and we aren't late (yet)!"
Navigational Fun: Traditional-style street signs pointing the way back to local estates with a cheeky twist.
Our goal is to transform the daily trek into an interactive adventure. By replacing "are we there yet?" with engaging street art, we hope to:
Reduce Car Pollution: Making the walk more interesting than the drive.
Build Community: Getting parents and neighbors talking as they move together.
Celebrate Our Streets: Swapping dull pavements for vibrant, purposeful art that discourages graffiti and celebrates our local explorers.
Our proposal was submitted as part of our application for the MCC Climate Action Funding 2025 and should know if we are successful in March 2026.
